Anbefalt jazz/soul/r&b:en salig blanding av jazz-, soul- og r&b-influerte utgivelser ... fra gode gamle klassikere til neo-klassikere, and beyond |
"A deep groove, jazzy keyboards, smooth backing vocals, syrupy strings and hard-driving horns frame Green's lustrous voice." [Rolling Stone]
"There is more variety than expected on the fine set with some cookers, ballads, waltzes, and even some hints at classical music. Recommended." [AMG]
"With cameos from Emmylou Harris, Jackson Browne and Sam Phillips, the singing is first-rate, but what really dazzles is the playing, from the sinuous, Talking Heads-style multiculti groove of «Tried and Tested» to the jazzy, harmonica-spiked «Don't Forget About Delight»." [Blender]
Candi Staton returns to her Southern R&B, Blues, Soul and Country Roots with her first secular recordings since 1982. These recordings are very reminiscent of her classic late sixties/early seventies Muscle Shoals recordings.
"An all-star crew of heavyweight improvisers and jazz luminaries. Together they stretch out on freewheeling, jam-oriented material that organically combines modern day pop production values with Peacock's strong affinity for early '60s jazz...a compelling, genre-defying hybrid." [Bill Milkowski]
"For those who prefer the vocal side of the Baker canon, this is an excellent compilation of his best vintage material in that mode. The 20 tracks draw from sessions covering the era when he was generally conceded to be at his vocal peak (1953-1956)." [AMG]
In 1949, Django Reinhardt and Stephane Grappelli reunited for a brief tour of Italy. While they were there they recorded about 50 tunes with an Italian rhythm section. This CD collects 23 of the best tracks from those final sessions, including versions of Hot Club standards like «Minor Swing», «Bricktop», and «Swing 42».
"Oh, if only all R&B records were made this way. Imagine the Bee Gees making an art album at the peak of their Saturday Night Fever-era, with a dash of Steve Miller's «Fly Like an Eagle» and a pinch of Al Green's horns and strings tossed in" [Pop Matters]
"This languid, seductive gem may well be Grant Green's greatest moment on record. Right from the opening bars of the classic title cut, Idle Moments is immediately ingratiating and accessible, featuring some of Green's most stylish straight jazz playing...some of the finest guitar jazz of the hard bop era." [AMG]
"If you are searching for the next upcoming original saxophonist in modern jazz, Coffin may be your man. He plays alto and tenor in a manner very reminiscent of a young Sonny Rollins; savvy, brawny, unabashed and fearless." [AMG]
Produsert av Bernie Leadon (The Eagles).
"Feels Like Home could be seen as Come Away With Me Again if not for that fact that it's actually better...a soft and amiable album that frames Jones' "soft-focus Aretha Franklin" voice with a group of songs that are as classy as they are quiet." [AMG]
"In many ways, Don't Give Up On Me most closely resembles Johnny Cash's superb American Recordings...Don't Give Up On Me leaves no doubt that Solomon Burke is still one of the finest voices of his time." [AMG]
"Some seriously astral Irish blues poetry, tributes to his pop-culture heroes and a lot of mellow, easy-rolling folk-jazz numbers." [Rolling Stone]
"As part of the Fantasy Definitive series, pianist and composer Vince Guaraldi is spotlighted on 31 tracks recorded for the label between 1955 and 1966. This noteworthy compilation focuses not only on Guaraldi as the composer of songs from the Charlie Brown television cartoon, but as a versatile jazz pianist." [AMG]
